Working alongside Troup Bywater & Anders and main contractor Mace, Diffusion supplied ECO Highline 270 fan coil units throughout the tower, providing stable heating and cooling performance within restricted ceiling voids and premium interior spaces. The Highline 270 range delivers low‑energy operation through efficient EC/DC motor technology, ensuring reduced running costs while supporting the building’s long‑term sustainability objectives. Their compact profile and quiet performance make them particularly suited to The Shard’s mixed‑use floors, where comfort, acoustic control and unobtrusive integration are essential. These units help maintain consistent conditions across office accommodation and other occupied areas, contributing to the building’s overall environmental strategy and operational efficiency.
Diffusion also supplied bespoke Oasis air curtains for the public viewing gallery located on floors 68, 69 and 72, an area that experiences unique environmental challenges due to altitude, extensive glazing and high visitor footfall. The custom-designed Oasis units provide effective thermal separation at entry points, ensuring that visitors remain comfortable despite fluctuating external conditions at height. Their discreet integration supports the architectural intent of the viewing gallery, delivering reliable performance without compromising the clean, open aesthetic of the space.
The Shard remains an ongoing project for Diffusion, reflecting our continued commitment to delivering engineered HVAC solutions for complex, high-profile buildings. Through the combination of Highline 270 fan coil units and bespoke Oasis air curtains, Diffusion supports one of Europe’s most iconic structures with equipment that delivers comfort, efficiency and long-term reliability across its diverse and demanding environments.
